Specimen notes
Public Note:
Confirmed as C. elsae. Tissue unclamped. Basidia 4-6 spored. Spores thin-walled, variable in size, collapsing. Some basidia showing same internal spiral character as the small fragment of the type held at PDD. ITS failed (as usual - the long insertion issue probably), and LSU N-J places basal to entire Cantharellus clade. Appears to be a SI West Coast/Buller specialist. Not a Craterellus. Collections labelled Gomphus/Gloeocantharellus should always have spores checked because of the macro similarity of G. nz with this, and also potentially Hygrophorus salmonipes.
