Specimen notes
Note:
[PL] notes. Cap broadly convex with red-brown scales, 120mm diam. Gills free, pinkish grey at first then chocolate to black. Stipe tapering to base with ring, scales below, glabrous white above. Flesh thick, reddening very slightly. Spores ellispoid, thick walled, no germ pore, 8 x 6um. Gill edge sterile, cheilocystdia clavate .[JAC] With field description but no colour change note or KOH. ITS sequence indicates this is section arvense, not bivelaris (A. subperonatus) and is not A. subperonatus ss. The sequence also indicates it is not A. subperonatus sensu Mitchell which is nearer(same as) A. devoniensis. The sequence indicates this is very close to the Australian secotioid A. eburneocanus and in the same clade as A. subantarcticus and A. 'perobscurus cf.' Spores length=7.2-9.0µm (µ=7.8, σ=0.48), width=4.7-5.7µm (µ=5.2, σ=0.27), Q=1.3-1.8µm (µ=1.50, σ=0.11), n=20. Same as JAC9840.
