Specimen notes
Public Note:
Material appears to have long stem (and spores described as white/pale?). This looks more like Clavogaster 'whakapapa' Horak, and not N. lignicola. The former has spores 11 x 6.5, lamellate, and no chrysocystidia. The latter has cellular gleba, spores 13.5-16 x 8-10 and chrysocystidia. material requires checking. [Apr 2018] This has spores length=10.3–12.6µm (µ=11.4, σ=0.67), width=5.9–7.6µm (µ=6.5, σ=0.44), Q=1.6–1.9µm (µ=1.76, σ=0.09), n=20. So as expected this fits with 'whakapap' and not N. lignicola. However, re-examination of the type, whilst confrming the large spore size, does not confirm the presence of the chrysocystidia mentioned by Horak. So clearly 'whakapap' and lignicola re close, but how close? It is interesting to note that Leratiomyces erythrocephala collections show disjunct spore size, whilst presumably all being the same taxon.
