(Extract from Kew letter D8868/54/H/2445, 4 Jan 1955 to H.H.A. "Spergula affinis Hook Ic.Pl.Tab.266 (1840) The illustration and description fit Gunn 967 collected from the Hampshire Hills, Feb 1837. The three small pieces of the plant agree quite will with your specimens from N.Z. except that the lvs and especially the peduncles are more elongate, the peduncles 1 in the fr. stage reaching 30 mm. long. The type sheet also bears 2 other collections under Gunn 967, both from Franklin River and dated Feb 1845. "(The Hampshire Hills coll. is that quoted by Hooker and must include type.
