Specimen notes
Supplementary remarks:
I don’t think this is Salix repens because the stipules are leafy and persistent which is not the case for S. repens. The specimen keys to Salix repens on things like leaf dimensions and not to anything else and Salix repens has a number of clones present in NZ and can grow to several metres high here. But because of the stipules I rule it out. There are a few things it might be, some of which are S. repens hybrids, some S. aurita hybrids. I’m reasonably sure its something new for NZ which is a bit surprising for Pareora River. Most of it has been pressed most of it to go on. I’ve taken photos for the online key but I won’t add it to the key until I’ve seen and photographed catkins and have a better idea of what it is.
