Habitat:
Large 70ha fen. The wetland is a mosaic of vegetation types with sedgelands dominating throughout. Areas of copper tussock and shrubland (mānuka and Carmichaelia torulosum) on the drier surfaces and patches of shorter herbfield and Sphagnum mounds scattered throughout. E. hirtigerum is most abundant in the short herbfields dominated by Gonocarpus micranthus, but is seemingly throughout.
