Either C. vulgare or C. palustre, C. palustre is usually more divided and presents a clear rosette. C. vulgare usually has thicker leaves and long spines on the leaf. Plant appears somewhat shaded. Key character is dense tomentum below the leaf.

Large canopy gap over approximately 70% of plot with several large CWD and dead standings. Remaining canopy consists of NOTfus and WEIrac with PSEcol and CYAsmi in sub-canopy. Ground cover of BLEdis, HISinc, and LEUfas.
