Habitat:
On the edge of short Kunzea forest (of c. 50 yrs old) dry stony soil. Very hard site; Cyathodes juniperina underneath, Microlaena stipoides, otherwise scattered exotic grasses.

Notes:
This is a large plant in the hole of a stump plate, disturbed stony soil, growing vigourously. Leaves W-folded, yellow-green; blade tips short acute; leaves short compared with very long inflorescence bracts with long acuminate tips. Culms very stout 2.5-4 mm wide, not elongating much, up to 80 cm at most. Female spikes immature yellowish; maturing fruits very dense.
