Notes:
It is an annual and grows freely in gateways and lawns. It is liked by stock but has a short life 6-9 weeks in mid-summer. It is a prolific seeder all the year round. In winter it provides much feed for small birds. It usually appears in a pasture during the time that small elements die out and permanent plants become established. The plant has a long white ligule and dull leaves. The sheath and leaf shoot are comparatively flat.

Supplementary remarks:
This specimen is part of a collection given to the Allan Herbarium by Laurence Smith (Amberly office, Environment Canterbury). This was given to L. Smith in the early 1990's by someone in Port Robinson, Cheviot.
The collection is believed to have been collected in 1948, based on several specimens with fully written dates in the collection. We believe that JRK was a student of Canterbury Agriculture College (C.A.C), which is now known as Lincoln University.
