Notes:
A pale green minute plant found floating on clear ponds all over the world. The little leaf-like floating parts, about a quarter of an inch across, are really flattened stems and from them hang into the water inch long adventitious roots on which the root cap is visible to the naked eye. The leaf-like portions break up, giving a vegetable reproduction, and at certain times of the year minute unisexual flowers arise from the floating stems, so that seeds are produced.

Herbarium history:
This specimen is part of a collection given to the Allan Herbarium by Laurence Smith (Amberly office, Environment Canterbury). This was given to L. Smith in the early 1990's by someone in Port Robinson, Cheviot.
The collection is believed to have been collected in 1948, based on several specimens with fully written dates in the collection. We believe that JRK is a student of Canterbury Agriculture College (C.A.C), which is now known as Lincoln University.
