Habitat:
Generally growing as emergent plants over loose limestone debris on hill slopes, otherwise dominated by secondary shrubland grazed by sheep, deer and goats. Abundance is greatest on loose material below large limestone bluffs, mid-slope to upper height on the north-eastern aspect of the Puhi Puhi sycncline.
Microhabitat:
The plants are most plentiful, free-standing over loose limestone debris, with occasional Poa cita, otherwise little other large vegetation present. Where this debris is more stable or finer some other species occur, including Discaria toumatou and Coprosma propinqua over Poa cita and Festuca novae-zelandiae with a variety of native and exotic herbs and grasses.
