Habitat:
Growing on steep banks and cliffs of semi-consolidated uplifted marine outwash gravels in a deeply cut coastal canyon. Emergent plants in areas of relatively bare or sparsely grass-covered stony ground near the top of a steep SW-facing bank in a coastal gully.
Microhabitat:
The immediate site of the Heliohebe hulkeana s.l. population is dominated by the Heliohebe hulkeana s.l. itself, with grasses between, with Kunzea robusta, Leptospermum scoparium and Carmichaelia australis (taller woody scrub vegetation) on deeper soils nearby.
Notes:
About 10 mature specimens were seen scattered (with localised clumping) over an area of c. 5 m x 5 m. Suitable but inaccessible habitat nearby indicates the population is likely to be considerably larger and more widespread. Occurs in similar habitat in several nearby gullies in the Conway Flat area.
Site: Physically protected from most livestock by fencing and the steep topography. QEII covenant.
