Vine-like stems, thick and tough, plant scarcely climbing. Leaves very large; petiole to c. 60 cm long, channelled above proximally, flat above distally; lamina to c. 80 x 60 cm on this plant but probably larger elsewhere, variously lobed, mainly to near midrib but often with holes in lamina towards the midrib, coriaceous and dark shining green above. Inflorescence erect. Spathe pale whitish-grey in bud, opening to white inside and cream or pale green outside, c. 25 x 19 cm, remaining deeply concave, otherwise appearing very broad elliptic, very thick and coriaceous; margins reflexed. Spadix c. 20 cm x 3.7 cm, broad cylindric but tapering a little at base and apex, cream or whitish; proximal 4 cm with small rhomboid (surface view) segments distal 16 cm with larger less distinct hexagonal (surface view) segments, with anthers around margins. Probably a relic of cultivation.
