Habitat:
Growing as a scattered population of plants favouring colluvial ground under a fragmented manuka-five finger canopy and a weak association of grasses and herbs, on toe-slopes below a prominent limestone hill. Unprotected farmland. Subject to browsing by livestock and by feral red deer, though somewhat protected by post-earthquake topographic constraints (slip scarps and fissures). Associated species: The local canopy was a fragmented mix of Leptospermum scoparium and Pseudopanax arboreus with occasional Crataegus monogyna. The understorey was dominated by Coprosma propinqua. Groundcover was dominated by Linum catharticum, Hieracium pollichiae, Leucanthemum vulgare with occasional Gingidia montana.
Notes:
At least 20 plants were found, scattered over about 0.25 hectares. This population occurred as healthy plants up to c. 0.2 m tall, with some sign indicative of recent recruitment. Most plants were flowering. The distribution indicates a preference for relatively fine limestone colluvium.Collected with The Canterbury Botanical Society.
