Habitat:
Growing on colluvial ground under a fragmented manuka-five finger canopy and a weak association of grasses and herbs, on toe-slopes below a prominent limestone hill. Also seen occurring as a groundcover under nearby forest and scrub associations, on a range of soil types. Widespread under kanuka forest, manuka scrub and shrublands, and hardwood scrub, over several hectares. Unprotected farmland. Subject to browsing by livestock and by feral red deer.Associated species: The local canopy was a fragmented mix of Leptospermum scoparium and Pseudopanax arboreus with occasional Crataegus monogyna. The understorey was dominated by Coprosma propinqua. Groundcover was dominated by Linum catharticum, Epilobium wilsonii, Leucanthemum vulgare with occasional Gingidia montana. Substrate: On limestone colluvium (some of it recently disturbed by landslips induced by recent earthquakes). Loose disturbed colluvial debris and shallow soils overlying limestone rock.
Notes:
The population occurred as healthy plants scattered under most areas supporting hardwood canopy, with distribution indicative of widespread recruitment. Many plants were flowering. [See CHR 655517 for other collection].Collected with The Canterbury Botanical Society.
