Geothermal scrub. Associated species: Leptospermum, Kunzea tenuicaulis, Leucopogon sp. Habitat modification: Fringe of urban area, heated ground, previous fires. Landform: Flat terrace streamside or geothermal flats. Geology: Geothermal, Rotorua geothermal field. Soil colour and texture: Sandy loam, clay loam, silt. Brown silt to white clay. Slope: Flat. Puarenga stream has a small fringe of native vegetation: merges into Sulphur Bay with wider expanses of flat geothermal scrub.
