Notes:
Herb or subshrub with erect stems to c. 2 m high. Leaf sheath and lamina base magenta-purple, otherwise lamina ± deep green, especially above. Inflorescence erect. Bracts usually > pedicels, linear or linear-subulate; peduncles to c. 2 cm long, purple. Perianth violet-blue, ovoid in bud; outer whorl 12-13 mm long; segments ± ovate; inner whorl c. 15 mm long; segments c. 17 mm wide, very broadly ovate, rather deeper colour (apparently not opening widely), ± enclosing the 6 stamens. Style > stamens.
