Plant has the spike-like inflorescence of Dracophyllum filifolium but also has pubescent sepals cf D. rosmarinifolium. Such plants have been noted from the Tararua Range by Druce and plants in this area are likely to represent a hybrid swarm with a range of features ranging from D. filifolium-like to D. rosmarinifolium-like.
