Boggy valley floor, open scrub to low forest of Coprosma propinqua, Carpodetus serratus, Cyathea smithii. Ponded water was interspered with organic ooze, and the vegetation was quite open.
Notes:
Low trees 2.5 - 3.5 m tall. Trunk estimated diameter at 10-14 cm. Trees usually single leadered, and cambium was bright orange. The flower buds are not subtended by pendulous stalks, though they are primoidal at present. No fruit on any individuals.
