Beside old taro swamp, moist volcanic soil.
Notes:
Small tree, deciduous, with open habit and almost horizontal branches. Flowers ± secund in the spike, erect in bud, and pointing back at anthesis. Corolla deep orange; standard erect, c. 6.7 x 3.3 cm. broad elliptic but remaining folded; wings 1.7-2.5 cm long; keel = wings, dark shining red. Stamens and style curving, shining red; style c. 3.2 cm, free part of filaments, except free uppermost stamens 2-3 cm long. Old pods rather irregularly shaped. Seeds dull red.
