Specimen notes
Supplementary remarks:
It is unfortunate that the specimen has no flowers. If the four sheets agree closely with this, that is good evidence for the existence of a true species in the wild state, though it is very curious that a plant so easily recognizable in the living state should have eluded observation. I am not clear whether you consider the herbariums specimens as you say "whether the plant, so well known in cultivation be a hybrid a no." From this single specimen I do not care to draw any definite conclusions and I have no material of the garden plant at hand. I should be glad to hear what you consider the rhe relation between the garden plant and the herbarium specimens. H.H.A. 10/1/34
