I am not confident of this. It is quite unlike other Kermadec specimens of M. gracile (colour, penicillate habit, etc), but I don't know what else it could be, unless it is a Pacific species. In Vitt's Australasian key it goes to M. hemitrichoides, but I am sure it is not that species. My first impression was that it looked like M. longisrostre but the laminal cells here are clearly papillose, while those of M. longirostre are smooth. It might be a Pacific species or an undescribed species.
