Notes:
Height: 9 m; Girth: 79 cm @ 0.750 m; Spread: 9 m x 9 m. The tree is on the riverside entrance. Walk over the vehicle bridge at the end of Cashel Street into the Hospital grounds and follow the path running alongside the Hospital until you reach the end of that actual building only. Turn right across the drive onto the lawn for a few metres towards the river - there is a pyramid shaped rock with plaque at the base of the tree. The tree was grown from seed taken from the plane tree in Kos that Hippocrates is believed to have taught under and the importation of seed and its planting was organised by Dr Barrie Tait who was a specialist consultant at Christchurch Hospital in the 1970s.
