Habitat:
small area in a steep sided gully under a karaka grove with Olearia paniculata being the most common understory species but still sparse. There is a watercourse in the bottom of the gully currently with some small pools and minimal water flow. The gully drops quite steeply down to the coast. Carex flagellifera and C. solandri favoured area closer to the gully bottom and C. raoulii , the Uncinia (U. aff. uncinata?) along with the other Carex specimens were growing further up the bank with Trisetum lepidum and Echinopogon ovatus. The area is grazed and sheep were present but the state of the vegetation leads me to think cattle are not often in the area.
