Lianoid or suberect shrubby plant; stems very twisted and to several metres long. Leaves generally in terminal rosettes, glossy on both sides, subcoriaceous. Fruiting inflor. ± erect, to c. 9.5 cm long x 2-2.5 cm, thick, broad cylindric, bright orange-red. (individual fruits) fleshy and viscid, 6-8 mm long, ± oblong. Seeds 3-4 mm long. Very common on Te Kou.
