Notes:
Large herb with short very stout stems and roots, forming large clumps. Leaves rather thick and undulate, ± shining above, paler beneath; marginal teeth softly spiny; midrib broad and pale. Capitula 4-4.5 cm across the flat top & including the spreading pink-flushed rays. Central florets tubular & purple, small. Phyllaries with prominent ± toothed keel. Locally very common.
