Herbarium history:
The K. W. Allison Collection No. 633
Type:
I have attached the following information to the designated lectotype in herb. JENA:
Renner does not clearly designated a type collection in his protologue, but it appears that this fruiting collection is one of two in JE that are anotated in his hand as Archephemeropsis trentepohlioides. (The other being a sterile specimen collected by R.Mundy. He could not have written his description, or based his illustrations from the sterile Mundy specimen.)
The duplicates of this KW Allison collection in CHR (where the Allison herbarium resides) bears the following more detailed data:
“Near Atiamuri, south of Rotorua. On branches and twigs of small shrub (Cyathodes acerosa) in open near base of manuka hillside. Shade to ½ shade. KW Allison 633; Nov. 1930. Det. as E. tjibodensis by KW Allison. This gathering send to Dr. Verdoorn for his exsiccata. “
Comparison of this lectotype, the duplicate of KW Allsion 633 in herb. CHR, and the duplicate of Musci Selecti et Critica 202 in JENA show them to be growing on the same wood (i.e. Cyathodes acerosa, now known as C. juniperina) and with a similar suite of associated hepatics and lichens. There can be no reasonable doubt that they are derived from the same KW Allison collection.
