Notes:
Small tree 3 - 4 m high with fairly stout trunk. Branches ± horizontal. Young shoots light brown. Leaves with indistinct stomatal bands beneath. Cones c. 4 x 3.5 - 4 cm; scales spreading at an acute angle to give a loosely rosetted appearance, individual scales triangular-ovate, thick & coriaceous, dull light green. Cones often close to upper trunk. This the only coning tree of the small group. A very rare species in New Zealand, and first time cones brought in for CHR.
