Cultivated beneath deciduous tree.
Notes:
Semi-succulent perennial herb; stems purple, rooting at lower nodes. Leaves somewhat shining, deep green above, dark purple below. Infor. dark purple and white pilose as lower leaf surface, including the strongly convex (naviculate) sepals c. 5 mm long. Petals 7-8-5-6 mm, broad ovate, white with pink distally. Stamens < petals; white multicellular hair tuft = stamens. Style white, > stamens but < petals. Never sets seed, damaged by frost in winter.
