Notes:
Rhizomatous herb; rhizomes pale pink or creamy, strongly smelling of ginger. Leafy shoots 70-80 cm long; lamina dark green. Inflor. erect, on leafless shoots to c. 15 cm high. Inflor. c. 7 x 2 cm, fusiform. Primary bracts green with pale cream margin, appressed. Bracteoles 2, membranous, transparent, very unequal. Perianth c. 4.5 cm long, i.e. the pale yellow outer whorl; dorsal segment 2-2.5 cm long, acute, narrow oblong, lower 2 segments shorter, narrow oblong, soon recurving. Labellum c. 1.7 cm long, broad elliptic-obovate, strongly concave, pale yellow with dark purple in upper part; labellum lobes c. 1 cm long, ± oblong, dark purple in upper ½ to ⅔. Stamen c. 1.5 cm long including strongly curved dark purple crest appendage 0.6-0.8 cm long. Style thread-like, > stamen appendage.
