Abundant. Locally common in a cattle and sheep browsed matai (Prumnopitys taxifolia) / totara (Podocarpus totara var. totara) / kahikatea (Dacrycarpud dacrydioides) / Hoheria angustifolia forest. Forming dense interwoven patches on forest floor - but consistently restricted to sites with moderate to heavy shade throughout the day. Simplicia plants with feeble growth habit, producing myriad, sprawling, lax stems, leaves bright green when fresh, stem nodes dark black, not rooting on contact with ground, stems, sheaths, leaves minutely covered in fine , sparse prickle teeth - plants appearing to the naked eye as glabrous, ligules glabrous, lemma finely covered in minute prickle teeth. Inflorescences very hard to see unless specifically searching for them..
