Notes:
< 0.5 m tall. Branchlets hairy. Petioles red -- red color "leaks" into base of leaf. Solitary/axillary dry capsules surrounded by white fleshy calyx. At lookout, there was more sun exposure and more plants that had fruits (and larger plants). Gaultheria antipoda was common along the trail but it was only fruiting (red and white) at the exposed lookout.
