This plant was found below the summit, along the trail. In shade of forest. Not common in this area. Area has limestone and red iron deposits and is geothermically active.

Notes:
~ 1 m high. Along the trail below the summit. Raceme. One dried fruit appeared to have a fleshy calyx. This is a putative hybrid between Gaultheria antipoda and Gaultheria oppositifolia. The leaves appear to be intermediate between the two species.
