Habitat:
Coastal slope, near road, adventive scrub + pine trees.
Notes:
Vigorous high-climbing vine. Stipules prominent, revolute. Flowers pendent. Hypanthium 6-9.5 cm long, bright green, very swollen at base. Bracts light green, to c. 4.3 cm long, divided to > halfway. Perianth segments 3-4.7 cm long, pink or salmon-pink except for green band down outside of sepals; petals broad elliptic. Corona rim dark purple except for white scale tips. Anthers c. 10 mm long, vertically aligned. Stigmas overlapping anthers, bright green; styles pale pink. Fruit c. 8 x 4 cm, ellipsoid, light yellow. Aril orange, copious. Seeds black. Locally abundant.
