Note:
Hydrogonium cf. leucobasis (Dixon) Schultze-Motel (=Barbula leucobasis Dixon) C fr. Peristome Barbula-like. I have no material upon which to base a meaningful comparison. However B. leucobasis appears to be the only species in Dixon & Greenwood (1930) with a Barbula-like peristome. I have compared this specimen to Barbula javanica Dozy & Molk. (the species to which Dixon compared B. leucobasis in his protologue) from Java and in leaf characters this specimen is very similar. This specimen is, however, a more robust plant with longer stems than the available material of B. javanica. This specimen has narrower leaves than illustrated by Dixon in the protologue of Barbula leucobasis Dixon. I note that Alan Eddy highlights difficulties concerning the status of Barbula javanica Dozy & Molk.
