Habitat:
Growing as scattered, occasionally clustered plants on north-east facing lower hill-slopes, generally along forest margins and in light-wells, under or beside modified-primary and secondary podocarp-hardwood forest. At least 20 individuals noted.
Notes:
Most plants were in fruit. Distribution appeared to favour well lit marginsSubstrate: Well-developed and fertile colluvial mid-slope and toe-slope deposits overlying limestone near riverSite Protection: Protected by fencing from cattle (since 2009) but occasionally subject to light sheep grazing, legally protected by a QEII convenant.Associated species: The discontinous overhead canopy is dominated by Kunzea robusta, Melicytus ramiflorus, Myoporum laetum and Pennantia corymbosa with occasional emergent Podocarpus totara, Prumnopitys taxifolia, Dacrycarpus dacrydioides and Hoheria angustifolia nearby. The understorey is dominated by Pennantia corymbosa, Urtica ferox, and Coprosma areolata, and the ground cover by Hypolepis ambigua, Pellaea rotundifolia, Polystichum neozelandicum subsp. zerophyllum (in shaded sites) and exotic grasses (in open sites).
