Habitat:
On the trunk of nikau (Rhopalostylis baueri) in a deeply shaded Kermadec pohutukawa (Metrosideros kermadecensis) / nikau forest at start of track descent into Sunshine valley.
Notes:
Very uncommon. Thallus loosely attached randomly over parts of thallus base; adaxially dard reddish-grey-brown when fresh, somewhat folded and in some specimens distinctly cochleate; chartaceous when dry; margins covered in fine erose-greyish soralia, soralia also present as scattered, pustulate welts on the adaxial lamina; abaxial surface covered in dark fawn to brown, woolly tomentum; cyphellae sparse, some distinctly sorediate.
