Large shrub 2.5-3 m high; spreading open habitat with several main stems down to near base. Collected because of the two colours of flowers from a single root stock. Owner stated that the yellow may have been first. Either a grafted plant or a reversion to the basic red form. Inflorescence ± erect; flowers fairly spaced on long thin pedicels to 5 cm, either yellow or scarlet to yellow but the dimensions the same. Sepals 1-1.3 cm long, unequal, elliptic to oblong, yellow or orange red. 4 petals 2-2.1 x 1.7-1.9 cm; claw narrow, limb very broad and frilled and undulate, yellow or scarlet shading to yellow at margins; 1 petal c. 1.7 x 1 cm, yellow or scarlet. Stamens 4-7 cm long in same flower, yellow or scarlet. Style short.
