Altitudes:
from 80m
Habitat:
We counted some 50 Carex raoulii plants at this site, a steep slope immediately above a braided stream with greywacke bed and cut down through greywacke gravels.
Notes:
Plant Register ID: 2006/309They were under light all-day shade, the canopy being Kunzea ericoides s.l. with some Melicytus ramiflorus, and Coprosma crassifolia, C. rhamnoides lower understorey. The Carex formed an almost total ground cover in places, by overlapping tussocks. What interested me about this material is that all plants we examined had the terminal spikes at least the distal 50% of flowers female - other plants I've seen of this sp. tend to have 25-35% of that spike female. The inflated hispid utricles and double-folded leaves are typical of Carex raoulii though.
