Notes:
Small soft-wooded shrub or subshrub. Leaves dark velvety green above except for pink midrib, dark red beneath except for 2 prominent green basal glands; veins raised beneath; petiole pinkish-red. Cultivated for c. 2 - 3 years under the name "Velvetea Secret Love". Flowers ± declined on a very flexible pedicel. Calyx shining light green. Lower (posterior by resupination) sepal c. 2 x 2.5 cm; spur c. 9 cm long, obtuse. Corolla very irregular, forming a circular orifice 1.6 - 1.8 cm across the lower part, whitish except for orange spots, especially dense on the recurved margin of lateral petals; 2 lower petals united in lower third, 2.1 - 2.2 x 1.7 - 1.9 cm, irregularly obovate, white with yellow base inside, each with a small lobe facing inwards near the rounded apex; dorsal (by resupination) petal c. 2 x 1.2 cm, rhombic-obovate, greenish-white with deep red blotches; keel prominent, acute, deep green.
