Plants nearby included in bog, but generally open low manuka on wet south facing gentle slopes about 50-100 m above the Boulder River. Chionocloa rubra & other species, Sphagnum (falcatulum & cristata [cristatum])Bedrock is a mix of grantic and slate type rock. Rock in the region is very varied.
