Habitat:
Aciphylla 'Lomond' + Chionochloa rigida / Festuca matthewsii + Hieracium lachenalii grassland on colluvial slopes under bluffs.
Notes:
Sap milky. Female plant diameter 106 cm, 1 rosette, 1 spike in flower this year. Glaucous on all leaves. Female inflorescence 2.40 m, stem 1.50 m long, 57 mm diameter, red-brown. Head 900 mm long, 360 mm wide. Number of sterile bracts at base of head 11. Largest bract at base, 375 mm long, at 45° to stem. Largest panicle 135 mm long, its bract only 112 mm long, bract at 90° to stem. Panicle dark red-brown on peduncles and fruit. Male inflorescence 1.60 m, stem 200 mm long, 52 mm diameter. Head 1.40 m long, 650 mm wide. Sterile bracts absent. Largest bract 530 mm long, at 40° to stem. No reflexing of bract leaflets. Male stylopodium mid red-brown. Very little flowering of this species seen this year. Males finished and fallen over, females in early fruit.
