Habitat:
Tall forest of Metrosideros umbellata, Prumnopitys ferruginea, Quintinnia acutifolia and Weinmannia racemosa with canopy 22 metres high, and emergent Dacrydium cupressinum up to 38 metres high. Myrsine salicina in sub-canopy. Understory reasonably open, with several small leaf coprosmas, & Blechnum discolor and Cyathea smithii on forest floor. On humic soil on small bank on forest floor.
