Low shrubs to c. 40cm tall. This specimen and MJB 1317 were the only two individuals flowering - no others showed any signs of flowers.

Tag name = H. cockayneana "Nelson". Voucher specimen for material sent to IRL for flavonoid analysis. Also wet collection. Colour slides taken. Material sent to Bill Malcolm to be photographed. Cuttings taken and material sent to PJ de Lange for chromosome count. [Notes added to specimen since original label was printed: From cuttings grown from this plant, P. deLange has obtained a chromosome count of 2n = 80. Some leaves removed to DNA sampling by Evonne Low and Phil Garnock-Jones, July 2002.]
