On shaded greywacke boulder beneath Discaria toumatou in grazed Discaria-Coprosma shrubland.
Notes:
Mid-laminal cells of veg. leaves mostly with 2 peltate papillae; apical cells of both veg. and perichaetial leaves sharply pointed; some (not all) lf. apices reflexed when dry. This material has some features which are suggestive of H. stellata but it seems better to file it as H. ciliata until a review of representative N.Z. material can be conducted. AJF Jan 2000. (This specimen used for illustration for Moss Flora of New Zealand.)
Specimen notes
Supplementary remarks:
Hair poins reflexed or straight: spreading to erect Hair points entire or "toothed" by strong papillae: weakly toothed. Apical cell shape: mostly acute Number of papillae on most mid laminal cells: 2 (1 - 3)
