Habitat:
from colonies in sand, clearing in Pinus plantation.
Notes:
Stems tall (to 9ft tall), woody, in discrete clumps or colonies. No evidence of flower heads: leaves frosted. Colonies of varied ages, spread over several acres. Strongly rhizomatous. Plant same as I collected there some years ago? Stems to 9ft., ± 5cm at base. Rhizomes stout, ± 10cm diam., some stems branched, branches curved upwards, to 2ft. long. Lowest leaves reduced to sheaths with small lamina, these latter increasing in size with progression up stem. ± 25-26 leaves up a 6ft. stem. Series of basal leaves - lamina increasing in size from base upwards. Removed from cut stems sheath bases numbered to correspond with basal leaf numbers. Buds on stems: these are marked on stems, and [where] these buds grow are the points from which the lateral branches grow (see specimens).
