Notes:
Giant musoid plant with stout pseudostem 2-2.5m high and leaves another 2m or so high above pseudostem apex. Leaves with prominent reddish-purple midrib and petiole; midrib deeply channelled above; lamina to 150cm long to 60cm wide; apex aristate; petiole about 40cm from the wide sheathing base. Inflorescence a giant pendulous trunk 2-3m or more long by about 15-20cm diameter, at time of collecting mainly dead and with bracts dry and shrivelled, but with distal bracts still fleshy and with flowers at anthesis. Bracts subtending the rows of male and female flowers to about 22 x 12cm, broad ovate, pale green, flushed purple distally. Female flowers 5.5-6cm long; ovary cream, about 2cm long. Perianth about 1.5cm long, thin hyaline membrane. Stigmas purplish. Male flowers 5.5-6cm long; anthers about 2.7-2.8cm long, red. Fruits young, to about 3 x 0.7cm, 4-angled, oblong and hidden amongst dead bracts. Plant monocarpic; leafy specimen from young nearby tree.
