Habitat:
Margin of taro swamp, near road.
Notes:
Large clump-forming rhizomatous herb covering a number of square metres. Leaves ± erect, glaucous beneath; with vey thin purple margin. Inflorescence stem to c. 2 m high. Sheaths and bracts purple. Inner perianth segments 5.5-6 cm long, purple outside, folded but elliptic oblanceolate when expanded. Staminodes bright orange-red; lateral two 9.5-10 x 5.5-6 cm, somewhat asymmetric; lip (lowest one) similar but with yellow band (indistinct) and red spots in centre. Staminodes appearing twisted and thus flower irregular.
