Abandoned plantation area, roadside rank herbage, moist soil.
Notes:
Large clump-forming herb, the clump covering over 1 square metre. Stems to nearly 2.5 m high, terminating in an inflorescence. Leaf lamina to c. 45 x 21 cm, ± elliptic, shining beneath, mucronate. Inflorescence with glaucous-white bloomy bracts and outer perianth whorl. Flowers erect. Inner perianth whorl 3.3-3.6 cm long, narrow, shining deep pink, erect. Staminodes irregular, deep crimson, 4.5-4.8 cm long; biggest one oblanceolate, 9 mm wide. Fruit to 3 x 2.4 cm, ellipsoid-oblong, soft processes.
