Small tree 4 m or so high, spreading. Shoots becoming black, ± flattened. Spines present on strong vegetative shoots and main branches. Leaves lemon-scented when bruised, dark shining green above with impressed veins, pale beneath. Fruit ± pendent. Fruit to c. 6 cm diameter, globose or nearly so, sometimes ± obovoid, skin rough, not very thick, becoming yellow. Flesh pale greenish-orange, sour, very juicy. Said to be "remene enua", the original or first lemon brought to Aitutaki.
